Bedtime Rituals for Beautiful Skin (2018)

Bedtime rituals for clean, healthy skin

You’ve just finished a busy day crammed with commuting, meetings, phone calls or running around after your family and making dinner and you’re practically falling asleep as you sit down to watch a bit of TV. Your night-time skin regimen is the furthest thing from your mind. But before you put your fully made-up face to bed, think about the consequences and instead try these simple lazy girl tips to waking up with smoother, softer skin.

Have makeup remover wipes handy

You’re too tired to trek to the bathroom to wash your face, but sleeping in makeup is a huge skin no-no, even with mineral makeup. Not only does it rub off on your pillow (to stay there until you wash your sheets!), but it can also cause irritation and puffiness around the eyes or ‘the horror!’ cause your lashes to break.

As most women clean their skin properly in the mornings, why not use a quick fix in the evening? The lazy girl solution: Place a packet of makeup removing wipes at your bedside. Makeup removing cloths are generally good choices to remove makeup easily and quickly”

I personally use Simple Kind to Skin Facial Cleansing Wipes but find the one that suits your skin by trying a few different brands (however you should always look for alcohol- and fragrance-free wipes). If your skin is acne-prone, look for wipes containing salicylic acid. These help open up blocked pores while simultaneously removing makeup. You don’t wear makeup? You’ll still want to remove the day’s grime to keep pores unclogged.

Add Moisture

Garnier Vital Restore Night Cream

No matter what, beautiful skin needs hydration at night.  However if like me, you don’t like to wear a heavy night cream, you can go the light weight but effective route: Garnier Vital Restore Cream. It is marketed for mature skin however it is packed with orchid extract to stimulate cell vitality and Soy bioproteins that stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. The cream also helps to reduce the visible signs of ageing whilst intensely moisturising to leave skin feeling revitalised and renewed. Whats not to love????

Don’t forget your lips!!!

Vaseline Lip Therapy

After moisturising your face, rub a small amount of moisturiser into your lips then slick Vaseline over the top to lock in the moisture for softer plumper lips come morning. Vaseline also comes in a variety of gorgeous flavours too!!!

Petroleum Jelly is inexpensive and non-allergenic so its ideal for the majority of skin types.

(Vaseline can also be used to remove really stubborn eye makeup. Just pop onto a cotton pad/ball and rub over the stubborn makeup).

Keep Hydrated

I know that we all love to go to bed with a warm drink, especially in the colder evenings however your skin will thank you for swapping your in bed cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate for a glass of water. Though drinking water hasn’t been proven to hydrate skin, it does help the body expel toxins and helps to reduce dark circles under your eyes – which is never a bad thing.

And last but not least…get a good night’s sleep

When we sleep, our metabolic rate lowers, so we don’t produce as many skin-damaging free radicals. Additionally, since we aren’t outside doing battle with the elements, our body can focus on repairing any damage incurred during the day. So get your beauty zzz’s – your skin will thank you!

Remember, 5 mins of prepping your skin before bed will give you amazing results with little effort. As a lazy girl I keep most items on my bedside table and carry out my routine in bed whilst catching up on social media!!!
