Makeup Tips for Girls with Glasses

As a glasses wearer myself I’m so pleased that wearing glasses is now seen as the new trend rather than being geeky, and are now being worn in public by many celebrity fashion queens who are showing us that wearing glasses doesn’t mean that you need to shy away from wearing make-up. In fact, new glasses give you the perfect excuse to experiment with different beauty looks. Here are my fool proof tips to help make sure your eyes pop and your makeup looks beautiful.

Also, don’t apply makeup with a heavy hand. You can always add more, which is easier than taking it off and restarting.

Makeup Tips

Lashes

Use eyelash curlers to open up your eyes. This will also help stop long lashes from rubbing on your lenses. Also, switch to a long-wearing mascara that won’t smudge on your lenses.

Also, for daytime, keep lashes soft and floaty. Glasses can accentuate and magnify any clumps in your lashes and as always, if there is any sign of clumping make sure to comb and separate the lashes.

Eyebrows

Groom and shape your eyebrows. Your glasses frame your eyes, but your brows need to frame your glasses. After shaping them, fill in any gaps with eyebrow shadow or pencil, and finish with a clear mascara gel to keep them looking sleek. Don’t forget to pluck any scraggly hairs as they are magnified behind your lenses.

Use a nude eyeliner on your lower lids. Some glasses can make eyes appear smaller. Using a nude eyeliner on your waterline will make your eyes look bigger and help them really pop!

Match your eyeliner to your specs. Adjusting liner thickness is important when you’re wearing glasses – if your frames are thicker, you’ll want to apply a thicker line to the upper lash line so that your eyes stand out. If your frames are thinner, a softer liner works great. It’s important to make sure that there is a balance between the definition of your frames and your eyes.

Avoid applying eyeshadow beyond your glasses line. While you might like the idea of blending a strong colour up toward your brow line, this can clash with the lines created by your frames and end up looking messy. Instead, try blending a light or bronze shimmer up to your brow.

The colour of your eye shadow shouldn’t compete with the colour of your glasses. If you want to do the same colour as your frames on the eyelids, try a base hue that’s a shade lighter, and go a few shades darker for the crease colour. A shadow that is lighter and brighter than your frames will help eyes stand out. Always finish with eye liner and mascara.

If like me, you love wearing dark rimmed glasses, remember that sometimes they can cast dark shadows under our eyes. This is a nightmare for people like me who also has natural dark circles. You can counteract this by blending a peach-toned concealer beneath the lower lids to correct the darkness and use a concealer such as YSL Touche Eclat to highlight the area.

For more information on banishing those dark circles you can visit my blog post.

Highlighter is a quick make-up fix to brighten eyes. Make your eyes look brighter, and more radiant by blending a light highlighter near the inner corner of your eyes.

Blot away excess foundation to keep your makeup from coming off onto your frames.

This is especially important to do on the bridge of your nose and on your cheeks, since that’s where your glasses rest. Use a makeup sponge, like the Beauty Blender, dampen it slightly, and roll it over the bridge of your nose and along the tops of your cheeks to lift off any excess product. Don’t worry, it won’t remove what you just put on; it’ll simply leave you with a non-cakey, airbrushed look. Lastly, dust on setting powder, which will keep your glasses from sticking to your foundation and removing it when you do decide to take them off.

Complement your bold frames with an equally bold lip. A great pair of statement frames and classic eye makeup will always look best.

Alternatively, keep your look pretty – Since thick frames can look quite masculine, add a feminine girly touch in contrast to dark glasses with pretty cheeks and lips in shades of pink.

Glasses are a fashion statement just like your clothes and makeup so have fun playing with each element and experiment to find the right look for you.
